The internet, first conceived in the mid-1960s by a couple
of academics, was proposed merely as a means of communicating
via simple textual and tabular data links. Around thirty years
later, things needed to get a little more sophisticated. The
existing infrastructure had its limitations, so it was down
to the web designers to exploit the potential of the net and
help stimulate its development - today the web is part of
everyday life.
What next?
The latest web connection technology is collectively known
as ‘broadband’. This is available either via your
telephone line as an ADSL connection or via cable and satellite.
With Broadband, download times are reduced considerably. Most
images appear instantaneously as the page appears and the
whole internet experience is smoother and more professional
Ultra fast data transfer
Based on the progress made during the last decade, the
internet of the future will no longer be constrained
by the present bandwidth limitations and the potential
to create exciting new web-based applications is immense.
After all, who could have predicted only ten years ago
that one would be able to access estate agents’
property details, wherever they may be based, from the
comfort of one’s own home 24/7, all for the price
of a local telephone call?
